Diary Entry week 3

This week I have made a Poll focussing on what people would find interesting and to get their opinions of how to structure my magazine, by creating multiple choice options I will get a clearer understanding to what other people like in a magazine.

Magazine Proposal

Magazine Proposal

Type of magazine:  From my Poll 66% preferd reading a pop magazine, I believe bright colours will add to the fun effect that pop has to people. A Pop magazine full of information about famous pop artists who are making music now eg Take That, Rihanna, Maroon 5, Adele, Lady Gaga, LMFAO, Bruno Mars ect. These artists are in the news the most during the past month. My magazine will be based around their music as they appeal to both boys and girls for all occasions, my magazine will be a monthly magazine as this would provide more information and have more detail about the artists and how they are keeping in the music business. Also being a monthly magazine I am hoping to relate the style of my title to each season or holiday, this month is about fireworks so the style of my font will be related to fireworks. I believe this would make my magazine more interesting to the audience. Each artist is different however their music appeals to different ages. My target audience will be 17- 19 year olds, as this music appeals to them and my magazine will be about news, interviews, upcoming gigs which would be more suited for this age group.

I plan to layout my magazine in different stages as this will be informative to my audience, my front cover with different images and titles to attract the reader, my main topic will be enhanced to show this is what I’m focussing on. Next my contents page containing the headlines of my “music news”, also a sample of images about the music industry, then my first double page of my main news followed by locations of popular gigs and a record of the number one best songs and albums at the moment.
For my front cover I plan to have a single figure in the image like the magazine "Billboard" however from my poll 100% votes were for having a main image placed in different areas of the page and titles placed everywhere aswell with the titles. The bright colours in the title make the magazine reconizable even when the title is covered by an artist.

This is opposite the front cover aimmed at the artist Eminem, This more brighter cover gives a mysterious image of the artist Adele, the way she pulls her collar up covering part of her face however the colours are more vibrant than the dark depth image of Eminem. I am hopping to use bright interesting tones and colours in my magazine as this would make it more interesting.

I believe this magazine will succeed as the price of the magazine will be reasonable to my target audience as I know it is hard for young people to find jobs so the price of the magazine will not be too high as I want my audience to keep reading it. Therefore the price will be £2.20 I believe this is a reasonable price and matches the quality and quantity of the magazine.

Diary Entry Week 2

I have started using photoshop for my school magazine, I found photoshop quite complicated as some actions needed to be controlled by holding a variety of keys down, however I am happy with my overall result for my magazine. I only used photoshop for adding and placing titles, for my first time using photoshop I did not want to make my magazine look complicated and full of hundreds of titles and images.
I have also set up a Blogger account and have uploaded my draft and completed school magazine. Blogger has a lot to offer for my own blog however adding different titles and columns are a little hard to find in the menue.

Diary Entry Week 1

In first week of media, I was given the task of planning a front cover and contents page to a school magazine. I decided my magazine would be better suited for the new year seven students, as they would benefit most from the information given.
I made a rough draft of my plan which included: the name of the magazine, sub heading about what my magazine contains, price and my main image. These ideas will help guide my magazine to my target audience.

3x Front cover, contents page and double page Analysis

Front Cover & Contents Page To School Magazine

School Magazine Draft

My Magazine

By Stephanie Rallison

I have named my magazine RING as it relates to the fact its a school magazine and as a pun for something to read when the bell rings for registration, also by having the main title all in capitals as a reconised logo and to make it stand out. My target audience are year sevens who are starting at a new school and it can also be useful for children who are curious about what Haydon has to offer as a school.
I have made a draft of what my front cover and contents page would look like also including brief titles to which will be more detailed on my final version. The font in my final version will be brightly coloured to catch the audiences eye. There is no cost for the magazine as I want my magazine to be a needed tool, not a priced booklet. By adding a price to the magazine students will not be as interested as they would for something that is free, by being free there will be more of a chance of students being interested in picking one up.
My background image is of the school this shows the school is the main focus and that it is a school magazine, I am using an image to show what my main topic is about. By having the angle leading up the stairs gives a welcoming feeling, this will make the magazine more interesting also to show Haydon is a friednly school. My titles will be sitting on the stairs similar to what students would do at break time. However I may remove the bell on the corner of the page as it seems out of place, so I will save it for my contents page which is an image of the inside of the school, this will make the bell more noticeable and in its nactural setting.
I am hoping my magazine would make a difference for children making a fresh start, with all the helpfull hints and tips on how to settle in. I have also taken in consideration the fact the students who are new will not know the school site very well this can be a serious issue if there was an emergency, that is why I have included in my magazine a page on emergency's such as a fire, and what to do and where to go, also including a map with safe areas marked and can also be used to help the students find their classes.
The contents page is set in a gym to represtent everything can be fun but there are always rules, when you start school you must follow the rules and do as your told but school can be very enjoyable if you work hard and focus. Having the title to the magazine on the wall gives a graffiti effect to relate to the age group.
I have based my draft on my ideas for my magazine however some of these ideas may change as I begin to develop the magazine but I am pleased with the ideas so far as I know they can help new students settle in at school.
