Evaluation Question 4
What would be the audience for your media product?
I have aimed my music magazine towards teenagers and early adult’s age group (17-19 years old), this is due to this age range being more interested in the music industry not just enjoying music but increase their social life by going to the gigs and concerts. Another reason why I have chosen this age group is due to most concerts/gigs being at this age ranch so the information provided in my magazine will appeal more to them. The fun pop genre of music appeals to this age more as they have a wider social life so the fun theme of pop is often used in student bars at universities and at social gatherings. The age of which is a crucial time as the start of A levels and university may prevent some people from attending these events, my magazine can provide news about other gigs so my audience be more prepared and can arrange time to go to that particular event. Also with the idea of including a prize of winning tickets to a concert this would persuade my audience more, making my magazine more interesting, noticeable and working with the environment the people are working in (this applies more to university students living away from home) being able to arrange time off to go to a concert can also help relax a person allowing them to forget about their studies or exams.
Also the price of the magazine is reasonable as students would want to save money for university or while they are there, by setting a price at £3.99 the audience is receiving a variety of news and gossip each month.
I have included a list of top twenty songs in the week chart as this will increase the interest of my audience, the chart will allow those who cannot attend the social events can still hear about what songs are most popular also to see any new artists or songs have appeared during the week. I believe the features of which I have included in my magazine would benefit my target audience appealing to the financial side to their life and their social life my magazine provides an equal balance for my audience.

What kind of institution might distribute your media product and why?
When designing my music magazine I researched into a popular magazine known as Billboard, Billboard has a variety of media resources such as internet and magazines owned by Prometheus Global Media which is a diversified company covering the entertainment industry such as music charts, music events also involved in advertising and marketing. I believe a company like this would be interested in distributing my magazine, while Billboard covers all genres of music my magazine only focuses on the genre of Pop, also my magazine is a monthly magazine while Billboard is an American weekly magazine this means my magazine will contain more information making it more popular for people who are only interested in the facts and news in the month and following.
However a magazine such a “SPIN” could be a candidate as a distributor as it mainly covers rock music however the style of the front cover is similar to my music magazines cover, the use of poses and the position of the artist on the cover is used effectively while Billboard mainly uses a large image of the artist cropped so there is a close up on that particular artist. The layout of the text on a SPIN magazine is similar to my own, sell lines are located around the image all representing what that magazine has to offer, while in other front covers there is little use of sell lines. This shows how each magazine is different in each issue.
I believe a company such as SPIN would be interested in my magazine as they would then have two separate magazine genres one being rock/punk and the second being pop, this will allow the company to cover more of a variety of their audience and earn more of a profit in each month. Both magazines (SPIN and my own) have a different style however they are both effective in attracting their target audience. However both magazines are set at different age groups on the other hand this is a benefit as this will contribute to covering more of the public, also by the magazines being different it will make both stand out more, this is done by the layout of the magazine, its context and the image used to give a visual message of what the magazine has to offer. But compared to Billboard my music magazine would provide the audience with more information in the month but Billboard is able to cover that area with its variety of music genres and news about each one in a weekly magazine, this will put my magazine at a disadvantage and be unsuccessful in the market. I want to make my magazine stand out more compared to these two companies however each company has a positive effect and a negative effect if I used them as a distributor. I believe by going with SPIN magazine I would have a better chance of my magazine being noticed by the public and the fact they are opposite genres makes them stand out more.
Billboard have their own Youtube page this gathers more attention as Youtube is a popular site and is used by a vast majority of the public Billboard have a total of 155,001 subscribers and a total of 260,040,503 people have viewed their videos.
